Olga Fakatseli

PhD, Educational and Cultural Advisor and Co-Founder

Dr Olga Fakatseli is very happy to support the work of the Hellenic Hub from the position of Educational and Cultural Advisor. Olga brings an extensive background in formal and informal learning and more than 25 years of experience with children and young adults. Olga worked for the Greek Ministry of Culture before taking up the post of curator of the ethnological collections at the National Historical Museum of Greece, where she remained from 1996 until 2002. From this position she set up the first educational programmes of the museum and co-developed other educational activities. In 2005, she joined Audience Focus Ltd where she was involved as a museum consultant in several blockbuster exhibitions. Olga has always thoroughly enjoyed teaching and this is apparent in her pursuing a teaching career parallel to her work as a curator and museum consultant. As a teacher she has prepared and delivered courses in Ancient and Modern Greek employing a range of learning and teaching methods, and always achieving excellent academic results. Since 2002 she teaches Modern Greek at St Sophia’s School (www.stsophiasschool.com) where she is also holding the post of Head Teacher. Olga has a first degree in Archaeology and History of Art from the University of Athens, Greece, and an MA and PhD in Museum Studies from University College London. She has contributed articles on books and journals on several aspects of art and cultural history and has participated as a speaker at seminars and conferences.

Amaryllis Tsegou

PhD, Director of Studies and Co-Founder

Dr Amaryllis Tsegou has over 15 years of teaching experience in both formal educational settings and private tutoring. She worked at Saint Sophia’s Greek School in London from 2005 to 2014 teaching pupils ranging from Year 2 to 5 and covering the subjects of Greek language, history and culture. Additionally, she worked at London’s Hellenic Centre from 2005 to 2014, specialising on Beginners courses. For the last 16 years, she has also been working as a private Greek language tutor for children ranging from 4 to 13 years old, incorporating in the lessons material from Greek mythology, history and tradition in the lessons. For her adult students, she is focusing primarily on advanced conversation, drawing connections between the Greek language and culture and everyday activities, often holding lessons at museums, galleries and other locations around London. Since 2013, Amaryllis has been organising the summer programme Argonauts, which offers children from both Greece and abroad the opportunity to explore Greece and its culture through a variety of learning activities. Apart from teaching, Amaryllis also loves to cook and is a well known food photographer. Amaryllis, an Athens College alumna, has a Primary School Teaching degree from the University of Thessaloniki, an MA in Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) in Education, and an MA and PhD in Dance Anthropology from the University of Roehampton, London.
